Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan

Eid ul Fitr is celebrated After the Holy Month of Ramdan on First of Shawwal, the ninth month of lunar Islamic Calendar. It is also called Festival of Breaking of Fast. It’s a Three days Festival celebrated enthusiastically by the Muslim around the world.
According to Ahadith, These pious festival started in Madinah after migration. Anas reports that: When the Prophet Muhammad arrived in Madinah, he found some people celebrating two explicit days in which people used to amuse and entertain by merriment and playing. Prophet Muhammad asked people regarding the nature of these sorts of celebrations and merriment at which people responded that these festivities were occasions of recreation and fun of days of jahilliyah. At this point, the Prophet Muhammad remarked that the Almighty God has set two days of holidays instead of these festivities for people, one is Eid-ul-Fitr and the other one is Eid-ul-Adha.

In Pakistan, the Second largest Muslim country by Population, Eid ul Fitr is celebrated with generosity and gratitude. Eid ul Fitr is also called “Choti Eid” in Pakistan. In Pakistan, three day holidays are announce for Eid every year. The celebrations of Eid start on Chand Raat (Night of the moon). On Chand Raat, Peoples often visit Bazars for last minutes Eid shopping. Women especially young girls paint their hands with Mehndi.
On Eid day, Peoples get up early and offer fajar in Mosque. Elders in the House are obligated to give Charity on behalf of their families before eid prayer. This donation is called “Saqaqah al-Fitr”.
Eid Prayer is Wajib and it consist of two rakaats (units).
After Eid prayer, peoples visit graveyards and pray for departed family member. During Eid the traditional greeting is “Eid Mubarak”. Gifts are exchanged in family and Friends. Kids receive money from the elders of family called “Eidi”. Kids are allow to spend their Eidi as they want.
Women cook many special dishes on Eid. Peoples visit their relatives and friends and share joy of the day. Special celebratory dish in Pakistan for Eid ul fitr is “Sivayyan”.
Families get together in night of first day of Eid at dinner and plan for the celebration of other two days of Eid.
